This week, we chatted with  Oscar Perez Barragan, aka Designersputnik, designer and mastermind behind Blumenkohl ist Cool, which took the prize in Contest 15. Born in Barcelona, Oscar went to school for fashion design and currently lives in Germany where he does freelance work for clients such as Sony (PlayStation3), Paul Panzer, Lufthansa, BMW, Mitsubishi, Nestle, VW, Deutsche Bahn and Citroen.

RYZ: What artist(s) excite you most right now?

OSCAR: It’s up from the moment and personal mood. There are a lot of influences and different styles like Matthew Barney, Amon Tobin, Modeselektor, Apex Twin, Esplendor Geometrico.

RYZ: Who, What or Where do you find most inspiring?

OSCAR: When I think that I’m not thinking. But in other cases it could be every kind of situation. Looking back I was inspired by old silent movies, Planet of the Apes 1 to 3, or music. Music is another inspiring resource-Telekinesic Iberic bizzarro Folklore from 50’s-80’s, Freeriden, Russia, Asia, Red-Black-With, Kraftwerk.

RYZ: What’s your favorite art medium to work in?

OSCAR: My head, paper and pencil

RYZ: What’s your favorite art gallery? Museum?

OSCAR: It’s a very small shop called “Arkam” hidden in a small lane in Barcelona Ramblas. There you can find very crazy artworks from unknown Artists. Graphics, Vinyl Toys, Picture, Hand mad Cut-paste comics, etc. etc….every visit is a very interesting journey.

RYZ: What are you most proud of designing or creating

OSCAR: “Creating” is the most important thing for me. You can create a design, but you are not able to design a creation.

RYZ: How did you find out about RYZ?

OSCAR: A good friend, who has a fetish for sport shoes asked me how my design would be- he sent me the link. Thank you- Massi!

RYZ: Tell me more about Designer Sputnik…did you found it? What’s it’s main purpose?

OSCAR: I was born in Barcelona. At first I have designed Clothes (fashion design). I have taste in a lot of things, but my roots are the Graphic Design. I am following untouched zones, an unrealizable objective, following this way I am exploring interesting levels. I found you on this way.

RYZ: What’s the best present you’ve ever received?

OSCAR: My Girlfriend.

RYZ: What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

OSCAR: Nitzer Ebb

RYZ: As we grow older our influences constantly change. Have your art influences changed, as you have grown older?

OSCAR: It’s like recycling, influences are growing with us. We have to stay in the orbit.

RYZ: What current projects are you working on that you’d like to share with your RYZ fans?

OSCAR: Currently I am working on different projects where I’m able to flower out my personality- Theater Stage Design, Photo design, Illustration, 3D stereoscopic animations or Music.
